There is nothing like going into a conservative bank environment and singing at the top of your lungs at 10:30 in the morning!

I arrived dressed in blond braids, horned-helmet, plastic spear and fake-fur vest with ten minutes to spare. I called my contact from my car who said she’d meet me in the main lobby in two minutes. The building had two entrances, so, of course, I went into the wrong one, namely, the main banking area.

The two women speaking at the reception desk looked like they had seen an alien. Like a pro, one asked “may I help you?”

“Yes, someone is coming down to meet me. Is this the main entrance?” The woman told me how to get to the right place, paused, then said “I have to ask…”

I chuckled and said, “Yes, I’m delivering and operatic message.”

My contact escorted me to this morning’s unsuspecting recipient, Mary.

Mary and Katie have been friends, like, forever (a/k/a “BFF”). Here’s their story (kind-a):

Happy Birthday from your friend Kate
Whom you have known for thirty years!
What a life you have shared to date
Starting in school at St. Peter’s,

Then at Driscoll and Loyola.
I hear you shared a nice downtown flat,
Soaked up sun in Carribean –
I think we’d all like some of that!

Mary, you’re great, so says dear Kate!

How nice, you two stood up for each other
When you married your respective mates.
And, yikes, you were at hospital
When each other gave birth. Wow! That is great!

Seriously, it is so awesome
To have a kindred spirit on your way.
And be so loved by your friends
Who say to you a blessed birthday!
