Today, I had to deliver a telegram to a franchised delivery story. Unfortunately (or fortunately), Conar was released from work early because it was his birthday. But he had just left, so his co-workers were able to convince him to return for a surprise.

While I waited in a hidden alcove, the following happened:

  • A customer came into the alcove to check their mail. He was a bit taken aback to see a large woman in stereotypical Viking gear, but laughed.
  • A woman had received a text saying a package was ready for pickup. The package was not there and the staff had to deal with an angry customer. They did so with grace.
  • A man came in who had known one of the staff long time, but had not caught up with the staff member for eight years. As he told it, the man had been saved, became a minister, got married, and has three children.
  • A fourth customer had just arrived when Conor walked in the door.

I came from behind the alcove and delivered the telegram.  Conor was visibly surprised.  Yet another customer had walked in and all added their birthday wishes.
