Admission-free Recital and Crowdfunding Event

Award-winning soprano performs works by
Ravel, Schumann and Barber and gives back to supporters


Award-winning soprano Rose Guccione will perform works by Ravel, Schumann and Barber in recital. The event is admission-free and open to the public.


A professional singer for over twenty-years, Rose Guccione will be completing a degree – and Northeastern Illinois University’s Honors Program. The recital is a requirement toward graduation. Her honors creative project involves supplementing the recital by engaging a crowdfunding platform to raise money, secure future work, and attract investment in the university’s music department. The proposed paper is entitled: “Crowdfunding: Leveraging Academic Creative Projects toward Post-Education Opportunities.”

Admission is free and open to the public. The recital hall accommodates 170 attendees. Complimentary parking is available only in Lot F and the 4th floor of the parking garage on campus.

Rose Guccione is a professional opera singer, actress, teacher, and entrepreneur. She has performed at several Chicago venues, including, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Symphony Center, Ravinia, Chicago Opera Theatre, the Grant Park Music Festival, The Center for the Performing Arts at Governors State University, the St. Charles Music Festival, and the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts series. She has performed in New York, South Africa, Italy, France and, most recently, in Poland. Rose is an ensemble and board member of Salsation Theatre Company, NFP. She is currently an adjunct professor of voice at Dominican University and has held teaching positions at Sherwood at Columbia College Chicago, Lyric Opera of Chicago OperaKids program and the Merit School of Music. Dr. Kay Kim serves as the full-time staff accompanist at Northeastern Illinois University. Her previous teaching and staff pianist positions include Indiana University in Bloomington, Northwestern University and the Juilliard School. As a collaborative pianist, she has performed with many renowned artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Karl Leister and Philippe Cuper among others. Kay holds a doctoral degree in piano performance from Northwestern University. More information may be found at

The Department of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). Undergraduate degree programs include the Bachelor of Arts in Performance (instrumental or vocal) and the Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. The graduate program in Applied Music Pedagogy leads to the Master of Arts degree. If you already have an earned bachelor’s degree, NEIU offers the Teacher Certification Program (TCP) for those who wish to become state-certified teachers.

The 170-seat Recital Hall in The Salme Harju Steinberg Fine Arts Center at Northeastern Illinois University is one of the finest performance spaces in Chicago. Originally designed by VOA Associates Inc., in conjunction with Schuler & Schook, Inc. Theater Consultants, and The Talaske Group, Inc. Acoustical Consultants, the Recital Hall was completed in 1999. The Chicago Tribune has described the Recital Hall as “a gem of a space boasting exceptional acoustics.”
